Reflecting on the Forum

The GWO Safety & Training Forum 2022 brought together GWO's community for a heavyweight programme of inspiration, industry insight, networking and dialogue across a single day. Taking place at our headquarters in Central Copenhagen, the day comprised of workshops, roundtables as well as plenary sessions, with plenty of opportunities to contribute experience and understanding about the hot topics in safety and training in the wind industry.

The 2022 GWO Safety & Training Forum brought together GWO's community for a heavyweight programme of inspiration, industry insight, networking and dialogue across a single day. Session 1: Presentation and group facilitation - Clearing a path for our future workforce
Following a brief introduction to the GWO Entry Level Wind Technician Framework, delegates will be joined by facilitators at their tables to share insights and give feedback. Topics will include the practical benefits that the Entry Level Framework can offer to training providers, employers and the workforce, and the support that is required to implement the Entry Level Framework successfully.

Session 2: Presentation and panel discussion - Mapping the routes to success
This session will be in three parts. First, GWO Business Analytics Manager, Andrea Scassola will present the latest GWO Workforce Forecast, demonstrating where the most significant gaps exist between current training supply and the total addressable market. Then, leading GWO members will explain how they perceive the benefits of the Entry Level Framework and why they encourage its use and adoption around the world. A panel discussion of leading GWO members, including questions from the audience, will close the session.

Session 3: Feedback and facilitation, panel discussion - Adopting a new Entry Level Framework for safety &training
This session will focus on how the Global Community of Safety & Training can get the support they need to successfully deliver a full portfolio of GWO standards. Facilitators from session 1 will summarize the key feedback from the morning discussions. The chair will organise these into themes for discussion between the audience and the panel.

Keynote presentation from Mandy Hickson, former British RAF fighter pilot
GWO CEO Jakob Lau Holst will provide some concluding remarks from the day's findings, then introduce the speaker. Mandy’s remarkable insights into decision making under extreme pressure will focus on the role instructors have played in her development.

The GWO Safety & Training Forum features a keynote address from former British Royal Airforce fighter pilot, Mandy Hickson, whose remarkable insights into decision making under pressure will focus on the role instructors have played in her life. The importance of instructors is just one of the themes that will be echoed in the workshop streams running across Forum agenda. Moderated by our expert facilitators and subject matter experts, this commitment to dialogue remains true to GWO’s mission of being by the industry for industry. The finale for the day, the GWO Safety & Training Awards shines a spotlight on the great practice of training teams and practitioners.
