My company has training facilities in multiple continents. How should we apply for Training Team of the Year?

Irrespective of how many facilities a business operates, there is a single Training Team of the Year application process. Training teams may apply individually (entering single submissions- see below) or collectively. This is a business decision as there is no limit on the number of entries although naturally one strong application is preferable over several weak ones. After the submission period, all the entries will be divided into regional groups. Each region will have a Training Team of the Year regional winner. Applications with outstanding scores in an individual assessment criteria (for example: ‘Inclusivity of Training’) may be considered, by the judging panel, for a ‘Highly Commended’ award.

Can we create more than one submission for Training Team of the Year?

You can, providing each submission represents either a different training facility (with a different address) or a different instructor team at a single training facility. For example, a GWO Training provider/company operating more than one site may enter the same award for each location but may not enter the competition as a collective entity. Please note multi branch entries will be considered separately. For example; if Company A holds facilities in multiple locations (A1, A2, A3, A4) within the same region, Company A may not participate collectively as a single entity: only as companies A1, A2, A3 and A4 individually

Is submitting easy?

In the Training Team of the Year Category, there are 18 questions. Eight on contact and entrant information and ten free responses questions where entrants can tell us about their success based on the four criteria. The entry form ends with entrants giving further reason on, 'why we should win'. All the free response questions have a 200-word maximum count. Entries should be specific to GWO safety standards training courses and participants rather than any other training also carried out by the entrant.

What supporting material should we provide?

A good award entry includes supporting material. For example, if you have created a unique method of delivering training, it would be helpful to provide the judges with documentation of how it works and what the benefits are. For example, did you achieve improvements in learning? If so, how did you measure them? There is a place in the application to upload relevant documentation.
If you apply for the Training Team of the Year Award, you will receive a link to a survey to distribute to GWO course participants from the last 6 months.

The further six questions ask recipients to score on a 1-5 scale their experience of recent training at the specific entrant. These questions correspond to the four assessment criteria described below. The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete.

Should I only include information from 2021 in my entry?

We assume that entrants will send us their most relevant information showing us why they are winners. Stronger entries will highlight current practices, recent successes and demonstrable impact while avoiding old stories and distant possibilities. However, great events in the recent past or defined plans can still be relevant if they are displayed in a way to show how they help your business win.

What if I can't do the Surveymonkey?

Many entries have already sent out the survey to their recent participants, but some organisations have worries about whether the survey is possible within their GDPR (confidentiality) obligations. In response to this, we have instructed the judges to primarily concern themselves with the information coming directly from entry organisations. Judges should only refer to the collated Surveymonkey results in case of tie-breaks or similar. Survey results (or their absence) will not be used to mark entries down.
