1. Who can enter the GWO Safety & Training Awards?
The Awards are only open to teams and individuals employed by, or contracted to, GWO certified training providers.
2. When is the deadline to submit my entry to the GWO Safety & Training Awards 2024?
The submission period for entries begins on February 6th and closes on April 30th 2024.
3. We are a recently certified GWO training provider, can we enter the awards?
The Safety & Training Awards are only open to GWO certified training providers certified before 31st December 2023.
4. I cannot complete my submission for the Safety and Training Awards.
This could be for various reasons, but a common problem is entrants forgetting to verify their email address. Check your email inbox to see if you have received a verification email from GWO and that you have replied to it. If you continue to have problems, contact comms@globalwindsafety.org and we’ll reply as soon as possible.
4. I cannot complete my submission for the Safety and Training Awards.

5. Instructor of the Year Award: How does it work?
Introduction of the Instructor of the Year Award in 2024 aims to globally recognize exceptional instructors. The process for determining the winners is outlined below:
a. Upon completion of a course at your training centre, Course Participants have the opportunity to nominate their instructors after completing their participant survey in WINDA.
b. GWO will curate a list featuring the top-nominated instructors, considering both the quantity of nominations and the quality of recommendations.
c. Between May 1st and 17th, the training centre will receive an email requesting completion of five questions to officially accept the nomination within a two week period.
d. To aid them in their evaluation the external judging panel will receive information provided by the training provider, including noteworthy comments from participants.
e. Regional winners will be selected by the judging panel based on their assessments.
f. Shortlisted candidates will be notified during August.
g. Winners will be announced during the Safety & Training Awards Ceremony on October 9th in the United States.

Course participants will shortly be encouraged to nominate their instructors when they complete their WINDA feedback survey.

7. My company has training facilities in multiple continents. How should we apply for Training Team of the Year?
Irrespective of how many facilities a business operates, there is a single Training Team of the Year application process. Training teams from different facilities may apply individually (entering single submissions- see below) or collectively. This is a business decision as there is no limit on the number of entries.
After the submission period, all the entries will be divided into regional groups for judging. Each region will have a Training Team of the Year regional winner. Applications with outstanding scores in an individual assessment criterion (for example: ‘Contribution to Community & Industry’) may be considered, by the judging panel, for a ‘Highly Commended’ award.

For example; if Company A holds facilities in multiple locations (A1, A2, A3, A4) Company A may not participate collectively as a single entity: only as companies A1, A2, A3 and A4 individually

Narrate their success in a way that captivates and resonates, allowing the judging panel to truly understand and appreciate the unique qualities that make your colleague deserving of the Young Achiever Award. Your narrative storytelling will help paint a more vivid and compelling picture of their achievements.

Entries are judged by our panel of industry experts. For the Training Team of the Year Award the assessment criteria have equal weight in the judging process. The judging period finishes in early July.

• Instructor Development: A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with the industry’s developments as well as GWO Standards & Requirements. This could include attending conferences, participating in GWO pilots and staying informed about the latest developments in teaching skills.
• Learning Environment & Scenario Training: Describe how you’ve designed your training environment to represent the technicians’ work environment. Describe how you use equipment, facilities, specialist areas and landscapes to design practical training scenarios that represent the technicians’ work environment. How do you accommodate the different learning needs and requirements of your students?
• Contribution to the Community & Industry: Share example of your participation in industry initiatives. What initiatives aimed at promoting workforce development are you part of?

We prefer entries that focus on the delivery of wind industry-related training. The focus of all entries should be delivery of GWO certified training.

The shortlist will be announced after judging is finished at the end of August. You will be contacted at this point about next steps.

What can I expect from the Forum?
Dialog between the different groups in the GWO community is built into the DNA of the event. There are naturally plenty of opportunities for networking and the various workshop sessions provide a space for structured engagement on the GWO training and safety program. Bring along your great ideas and be prepared to join in with questions and opinions.

The GWO Safety & Training Forum is designed for all wind industry decision-makers with a focus on safety and training. The Forum will welcome GWO member representatives, training providers, certification bodies, auditors, and opinion formers. This event is not aimed at wind technicians.
